The purpose of blogging is similar to the purpose of reading anything. We have videos and can watch almost anything on-demand through the internet in this day of age. So why should we read blogs when we can watch someone talk about their topic? Do you prefer to read or listen when researching new information?
The purpose is because it depends on the topic. Some topics are better to make vlogs about because the audience can feel your energy and hear your tone, and some people just hate to read when they can just listen. This article explains the importance of blogs vs vlogs. It talks about the different factors that play into the decision of making a blog or a vlog. Some of the important factors to think about when deciding which format to use are: what is the purpose of vocalizing your thoughts, what age is your target audience, and how much time are you wanting to invest in vocalizing your thoughts? As you can see many factors help with the decision of should you blog or vlog? Some viewers will be happy either way, while some are just too tired to read after a long day at work, or too tired to watch a video.

I have conducted a lot of research on this topic. Most sources recommend vlogging and blogging because everything is not one size fits all. Some viewers like to skim an article to get the important information out of the article. A vlog takes longer to produce, and longer to reach the important information. Video editing is more time-consuming.
Blogging is a good way to share your thoughts and feelings anonymously online. People can always read and advise others from their anonymous posts. It helps people's mental health because they are less alone than they think. I read an inspiring article about mental health and blogging which I highly recommend reading. Reading also allows fewer people to compare themselves to others. Humans naturally compare themselves to other humans and some are worse than others with their bad habits. I have personally struggled with comparing myself to others. When people see vlogs of someone talking about a topic it allows our minds to get distracted. We start to think about what the speaker is wearing, what they look like, is their voice soothing? My point is it naturally just allows a block to the audience about the topic. Vlogs are more personal, but keeping them short and to the point is the best bet to get your message across to the audience.
As you can see there isn't just a simple yes or no answer. The population all has different preferences. Unfortunately, as a blogger or a vlogger, we can never make our entire audience satisfied with our work. People will always question what they hear or read. It is up to the creator to decide what they feel is best for their topic.
