In today’s generation, we all use social media as free advertisement. The younger generation mostly uses social media every day to stay connected to their friends and family. I use social media to see what events are occurring around me so I can plan something fun with my friends or family. Most businesses or organizations post their events on Facebook to make their event more known to the community. I am going to share the information I have learned from school, from my experience running a non-profit’s social media, and from growing up around social media.

Before posting for a business I like to ask myself, is my post engaging? Do I think it is clear? Is my tone on my post excited? Do I answer all of the essential questions that most people will have after reading the post? These are all the questions I must ask myself before posting online. The idea is to be excited about the event and to answer all questions from small to large. Some people have to make arrangements to attend the event so we need to put the general public’s concerns first. Another thing to consider when posting is, which platform is most popular? What time should I post the event? For example, I normally post on Facebook for the non-profit page that I manage. I have researched when the best times are to post on social media in 2021.
Social media is growing more and more every day because it is a powerful tool for businesses. Employers can go online and look at their candidates' social media platforms. It allows them to get more of an understanding of the person they are interested in hiring. Social media can be a good tool as I have mentioned before, but it can also be harmful depending on the circumstance.
Social media is designed to be addicting. The different platforms compete to see how much time they can get the user to waste on their platform. I will admit I do find myself being addicted some days to social media. My personal experience with social media is that it is nice to be able to see what your past classmates are doing with their lives, but that alone can cause feelings of jealousy. Social media can cause users to compare themselves to other users. An honest example is just last week I saw an old classmate online posting about their life. I couldn't help but think they are way farther in life than I. Of course, I felt happy and proud of them, but it also made me think about when that will be me. When I think back to when I was a child I thought by my current age I would be on a different path than I am now. I try to remember to take breaks from social media because I experience mental health issues that flare up on occasion so I try to avoid certain things. I try to remember that my educational path might not be the same as theirs. I did not begin college until I was twenty years old. Other people might have gone at eighteen, or just decided to not go. So we all experience different stages of life at different times. My story is meant to open your eyes to the fact that social media is all about having limits. It is a resourceful tool for businesses, job searching, and event planning. Just remember that too much of a good thing is not a good thing.
